Father’s Day Event at Estrada Courts Is on Despite Boyle Heights Fire, Smoke

The Serenatas Para Papá & Community Resource Distribution planned for Father’s Day will continue as scheduled despite the ongoing fire at a massive cold storage facility in Boyle Heights, organizers said Saturday.

The event is scheduled for 8:50 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday at Estrada Courts, 3142 Lydia Drive, in Boyle Heights.

It is in partnership between the Weingart East L.A. YMCA and Mayor Karen Bass, state Assemblyman Mark González and state Senator María Elena Durazo, organizers said.

Face masks and air purifiers will be distributed while supplies last, along with other resources and community wellness check-ins will be conducted at the event as a result of the smoky fire, organizers said. Mariachi music remains in the program.

The event is a walking procession around the Estrada Courts housing complex.
