An SUV with 12 people inside crashed into a hillside and overturned Saturday on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley.
The crash was reported at 1:25 a.m. Saturday on the northbound Golden State Freeway south of Sheldon Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told the CHP a black SUV spun out, overturned onto its roof and was blocking lanes. Someone involved in the crash reported 12 people were standing on the right hand shoulder.
The CHP later reported that about 10 people had suffered injuries. A spokesman said they appeared to involve complaints of pain. The Los Angeles Fire Department did not confirm the number or nature of injuries.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 2:24 a.m. shutting down lanes Nos. 3 and 4 of the northbound Golden State Freeway in the area. It was canceled at 3:32 a.m.
