Authorities Sunday were investigating the death of a 58-year-old man who was found lifeless on a freeway interchange in Riverside.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the northbound lanes of the Escondido (215) Freeway near the westbound Riverside (91) Freeway interchange at about 2:40 p.m. Saturday after a report of someone, possible a motorist, who jumped off the northbound 215 onto the westbound 91 transition road.
Responding officers located a 2005 white Dodge Ram that was abandoned on the transition road. An officer looked over the transition road and observed a man below on the embankment of the eastbound Moreno Valley (60) Freeway to the northbound 215 transition road.
Officers made access to the man, but were unable to locate a pulse, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by responding firefighters.
The man was the registered owner of the abandoned Dodge and matched the description of the jumper that was provided by the initial reporting party, authorities said.
