One person suffered critical injuries after a vehicle overturned and then caught on fire Friday on westbound Interstate 10 near Desert Center.
The crash was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Friday east of Red Cloud Road off-ramp, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that arriving crews encountered a single-vehicle that had caught fire, which was extinguished at 1:22 p.m. The injured individual was taken to a local hospital via helicopter. No other injuries were reported.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, a black mid-size sedan was apparently traveling eastbound at more than 100 mph when it swerved, then flipped toward the westbound side, landing on its roof.
All westbound lanes were temporarily shut down, and a No. 1 westbound lane remained closed as of 1:49 p.m.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
