A sinkhole opened by a water main break swallowed the front end of a van in Los Feliz Wednesday.

The break involved an 8-inch main and was reported just after 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of North Normandie Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Overhead images showed a Spectrum cable service van with its front wheels in the water-filled hole and its windshield wipers engaged, near the intersection of Normandie and Franklin Avenue.

“Our technician was working in the area when the sinkhole opened this morning. The technician is fine,” Spectrum spokesman Dennis Johnson told City News Service in statement Wednesday afternoon. He said officials would retrieve the van once they confirmed the area was safe.

An LADWP spokeswoman said crews were on the scene working on repairs and assessing if the area was safe to access.

Thirty-one customers were affected and Normandie was closed between Franklin Avenue and DeMille Drive as a result of the break, the LADWP reported.
