A fire struck a Long Beach home and knocked out power Thursday as neighbors complained it has burned down at least two times before.
The fire was reported to have started just before midnight on Wednesday at a vacant house on the 2300 block of East Linden Avenue.
Video from the scene showed firefighters taking up defensive positions from outside the burning building out of concern that the structure could collapse.
The fire prompted a temporary power outage after damaging nearby power lines. Southern California Edison reported that 23 customers was affected and that service would be restored by 10 a.m. Thursday.
A witness, who identified himself as ”Carlos,” was in the shower when a neighbor asked him to call 911.
”This is like, the third time this has happened,” said Carlos. ”I would just like the homeowner to make a choice, for the safety of our neighbors, the safety for my parents, the safety for everybody around here. We don’t want it to happen again.”
Firefighters took up defensive positions to protect the surrounding houses as the fire burned itself out.
No injuries were reported.
