[symple_googlemap title=”Oak Tree Accident” location=”1800 block of Huntington Drive, Duarte, CA” height=”300″ zoom=”15″]A big oak tree fell onto an apartment building in Duarte Wednesday, damaging the structure but causing no injuries, authorities said.
About 2 a.m., the massive tree, believed to be about 100 years old, fell into a row of two-story townhomes in the 1800 block of Huntington Drive, damaging three of them, residents said.
Residents told a CBS2 reporter at the scene they had expressed to city officials their concern about the tree but were told it was the property owner’s responsibility. Others said they heard the tree was historic and protected.
Another resident told Fox11 the falling tree “felt like a huge earthquake.”
The tree started falling apart last week, when big limb fell and destabilized it.
County firefighters said no injuries were reported, but five people were temporarily displaced because of the damage.
