The crime occurred about 6:20 a.m. in the 10000 block of Roseton Avenue, Whittier police Officer Bradley White said.
The residents got out safely, and the suspect surrendered to police about 8:30 a.m., White said. The man’s name was unavailable.
Nearby Santa Fe High School was locked down as a precaution, White said.
