A 23-year-old Lawndale man who allegedly fired numerous shots from his property was in stable condition Thursday after being shot by sheriff’s deputies, authorities said.

Travis Herr was shot by a SWAT team outside a side door at the home in the 4200 block of 164th Street about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday. He is hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries, said sheriff’s Deputy Kelvin Moody.

Herr was armed with multiple weapons and targeting deputies, residents and vehicles, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida.

It was unclear why Herr was shooting, but he will face charges of attempted murder on a peace officer, authorities said.

No one else was injured in the standoff, which started about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday with reports of gunfire coming from the house. Some nearby homes were evacuated.

The northbound and southbound San Diego (405) Freeway offramps to Hawthorne Boulevard were closed during the standoff.
