A 32-year-old man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting two women in Long Beach pleaded not guilty Monday to felony charges.

David Faavale Tautolo, of Signal Hill, is charged with two felony counts each of kidnapping to commit another crime and forcible rape and one felony count each of forcible oral copulation, attempted sodomy by use of force, sodomy by use of force and making criminal threats.

The criminal complaint also includes a sentence-enhancing allegation that the defendant committed kidnapping with multiple victims.

On Jan. 14, the first victim was at a bus station when the defendant allegedly grabbed her and forced her into his car, where he sexually assaulted her. When she escaped, she called police.

On Oct. 15, Tautolo allegedly struck again, picking up a second victim in his car and taking her to an alleyway, where he raped her.

Police arrested Tautolo the next day and he remains jailed on $4.5 million bail pending his next court hearing on Jan. 20, when a date is expected to be set for a hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.

If convicted as charged, he faces a possible life prison sentence.
