A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing to death a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene in an argument the suspect was having with his former girlfriend early Thursday.

Miguel Gonzalo Jimenez Jr. was arrested in North Hollywood and booked for murder, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Sara Faden said.

The victim was identified as Luis David Lazcano, 32, of Los Angeles.

Lazcano was attacked around 3 a.m. in the 200 block of South Serrano Avenue, between Second and Third streets,  after trying to break up an argument between Jimenez and his former girlfriend, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman said.

Lazcano was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Faden said.

Bail for Lazcano was set at $1 million, Faden said.
