A suspect was arrested today for allegedly trying to kidnap a girl about 16 years old in Canyon Country, according to detectives from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.

A witness reported seeing the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, grab the girl on a sidewalk near a bus stop at Jakes Way and Sierra Highway about 8:30 a.m., said Deputy Ryan Rouzan.

The unidentified witness stopped and yelled at the suspect, who released the girl. The witness then told the teen to run and called the sheriff’s department while keeping an eye on the suspect and directing deputies to his location, Rouzan said.

The victim’s identity is unknown, and detectives are hoping she will come forward, Rouzan said. Investigators from the station checked with local high schools in an attempt to locate the girl, who was described as Hispanic, with long curly hair with a bow. She was wearing a plaid shirt, a skirt and knee-high socks.

Anyone with information was asked to call the station’s Detective Bureau at (661) 255-1121.
