A 44-year-old man was charged Tuesday with shooting his younger brother to death in their mother’s backyard in Compton.
Dion Landry of Carson was ordered to be held in lieu of $2 million bail and is due to be arraigned on Dec. 4 on a murder charge stemming from Sunday’s killing of his 25-year-old brother, Davion Branch.
Prosecutors allege that Landry got into an argument with his brother at their mother’s home, left the house, returned with a gun and confronted Branch in the backyard of their mother’s home.
Landry was arrested soon afterward by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
He allegedly told deputies that he shot his brother, according to sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, Moody said.
If convicted as charged, Landry faces a maximum life prison sentence, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
