A man with a crossbow holed up in a house in Rowland Heights for about five hours Sunday, but eventually surrendered to a sheriff’s SWAT team, deputies said.
Someone called about 9:55 a.m. to report someone fighting in the streets in the 18000 block of Mescal Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“When deputies arrived the suspect went back inside the home,” Deputy Pauline Panis said. The barricade situation forced the evacuation of several homes in the area.
The man surrendered about 2:20 p.m., said Deputy Peter Gomez.
“He came out on his own,” Gomez said.
The suspect was believed to have been armed with a crossbow, but it was unclear if one was recovered.
