A fire broke out Tuesday in a 40-foot-long container of titanium shavings at a metal recycling business in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles.

Firefighters were sent to American Metal Recycling Services, 1011 Francisco St., shortly after 11 a.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Crews remained on scene early this afternoon, working to extinguish the stubborn fire in the titanium shavings, which were about three feet deep inside the container, Humphrey said.

The container was in a rear loading dock area of the business, he said.

No injuries were reported.
