A man stole a cellphone from a 15-year-old girl aboard a Metro bus in the Westlake District Sunday, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The theft happened about 9:10 p.m. aboard a bus that ended up stopped at the intersection of Third and Witmer streets, said Lt. Albert Maldonado of the sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau.
The teen was riding the bus with her family, Maldonado said. “The guy tried to snatch her phone and she argued with him. The guy threatened he had a knife, then he threatened he had a bomb. Somebody told the driver and he (the driver) stopped. The guy got off the bus with the phone and fled.”
There were no injuries, he said.
The suspect was detained nearby by Los Angeles police officers and the phone was recovered, Maldonado said.
