A Long Beach man who killed his wife and unsuccessfully tried to dismember her was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years to life in state prison.
Superior Court Judge James Otto denied the defense’s requests for a new trial and to reduce Kevin Adonis Forrest’s first-degree murder conviction to voluntary manslaughter, according to Deputy District Attorney Janis Johnson.
Forrest was found guilty Sept. 2 of the Feb. 27, 2013, shooting death of his wife of 18 years, Kathleen Ann Forrest, 59.
Forrest — who testified that his wife had been verbally abusive to him – – also stabbed her in the chest and unsuccessfully tried to dismember her, according to the prosecutor, who said the defendant called police four days later and said he had killed his wife.
Police found the woman’s body in a bathtub, along with photos he had taken of the corpse, according to the prosecutor.
