A Long Beach man was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle crashed on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic.

The 62-year-old man died at a hospital of injuries he suffered in the crash, which occurred about 2:20 a.m. north of Lake Hughes Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer M. Hernandez. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of relatives.

According to the CHP, the man was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide in the No. 2 lane of the freeway at about 65-70 mph when the motorcycle struck some wood on the road and the rider was thrown from the cycle.

A 60-year-old Canyon Country man was riding a 2008 Yamaha Raider motorcycle in the same lane but behind and to the left of the Long Beach man, according to the CHP. He was not injured.

Investigators said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
