Two men pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony assault charges for a fight that led to the death of a 40-year-old man in Placentia and were sentenced to prison terms ranging from five to 19 years.
Peter Elijah Azevedo pleaded guilty to felony assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He also admitted sentencing enhancements of committing a crime for a street gang and causing a coma or paralysis and was sentenced to the 19-year term, according to court records.
Co-defendant Steven Michael Roman, 35, of Anaheim, pleaded guilty to felony assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and was immediately sentenced to five years behind bars.
Ramon Benito Castaneda sustained a head injury in the fight that occurred about 5:50 p.m. Sept. 5 in the 400 block of South Van Buren Street, according to Placentia police. He died a week later.
