Police on Wednesday released the names of a young man and woman killed in a head-on collision in Torrance.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 9 p.m. Tuesday on Pacific Coast Highway, just east of Hawthorne Boulevard, Torrance Police Department Sgt. Paul Kranke said.

A Honda Accord driven by a 28-year-old man was eastbound on PCH when it collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla carrying the fatally injured victims, identified as 19-year-old Joseph Romero of Inglewood and his passenger, 20-year- old Los Angeles resident Vanessa Diaz.

The Honda driver, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

All lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed between Zamperini Way and Madison Street for about four hours.
