A man suspected of domestic violence was arrested Thursday after leading police on a brief car chase that led to the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway in the Echo Park area, where the vehicle crashed into another and he ran into a nearby neighborhood, authorities said.
The man, in his 30s, was taken into custody near the site of the crash, which happened about 8:45 a.m. near Glendale Boulevard, Los Angeles police Sgt. Michael Morisseau said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries, and will be booked on suspicion of various felonies, including domestic violence and stalking, Morisseau said. His name was not immediately released.
Police had gone to the 2500 block of Gates Street in the Lincoln Heights area about 8:35 a.m. on a report of domestic violence, Morisseau said.
They saw the suspect leaving in a black Prius, and began following the car on surface streets. A short time later, the car went onto the northbound 101 Freeway, and it collided with a Jeep, which overturned, Morisseau said.
The suspect got out, ran from the freeway into a nearby neighborhood, and was quickly taken into custody, Morisseau said.
The woman driving the Jeep was taken to a hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries. Two freeway lanes were blocked for a time while an investigation was conducted.
