One man was killed, another wounded and a third escaped injury in a Compton shooting Wednesday, authorities said.
It happened at 11:46 a.m. in the 900 block of Poplar Street, sheriff’s Deputy Grace Medrano said.
Detectives learned the three victims encountered a group of men, one of whom pulled out a gun and opened fire.
The assailant and his accomplices then fled in a getaway vehicle — a description of which was not available.
One of the victims was found in the backyard of a nearby residence. He had been shot in his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another of the men was wounded and taken to a hospital, where he was listed in fair condition with non-life-threatening wounds.
