Two people were sentenced Friday to state prison for their roles in a residential burglary ring that targeted vacationing newspaper subscribers.

Superior Court Judge Mike Camacho ordered Randal Joseph Whitmore, 45, to serve 14 years and four months behind bars.

Whitmore was convicted last year of six counts of residential burglary, four counts of receiving stolen property and one count each of conspiracy to commit residential burglary and conspiracy to receive stolen property.

Margaret Mary Susan High, 30, was given a six-year term. She pleaded no contest to a residential burglary charge.

Whitmore and High were among eight people indicted in November 2013 by a Los Angeles County grand jury. All eight have subsequently either pleaded no contest or been convicted.

Co-defendants Duane Vantuinen, 53, Cory Mulligan, 23, Brian Thomas Duran, 43, and Lorraine Marlene Vasquez, 42, were sentenced last year to state prison terms ranging from eight to 10 years.

The final two defendants, Joshua Ray Box, 45, and Edwin Lynn Valentine, 54, are awaiting sentencing Feb. 25. They are also facing state prison terms.

Glendora police began unraveling the burglary ring after a June 2012 traffic stop of one of the defendants’ cars turned up Los Angeles Times vacation hold lists that included subscribers’ addresses and the dates they were out of town.

The ring stole more than $1 million in electronics and other items were taken in nearly 20 residential burglaries in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties over a nearly two-year period beginning in December 2011.

The Los Angeles Times made changes in its delivery policies after being made aware of the crimes, a spokeswoman said earlier.

In addition to Glendora police, the investigation involved the sheriff’s departments in the counties of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino and the Arcadia, Burbank, Monrovia and San Gabriel police departments.
