Two men remained hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after being shot in a Pasadena park during a memorial gathering.

Police responded about 6 p.m. Wednesday to a report of shots fired around the 700 block of East Washington Boulevard, near El Molino Avenue, said Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra.

“A citizen then told the officers that a large crowd had gathered at Washington Park,” Ibarra said. “The officers went to the park and saw several people run out of the park and several cars leave the scene. Inside the park they found two men who were shot.”

He said paramedics transported Walter Reed, 26, and Joshua Jacob, 30, to a local hospital “in very serious condition.”

The victims both have previous addresses in Pasadena, but their current cities of residence were unknown to police, Ibarra said.

The suspect was described as black, about 30 years old, with a short afro. He wore a red long-sleeved shirt and was armed with a handgun.

A dark-colored sedan was seen leaving the area, heading east on Washington Boulevard, Ibarra said.

“Investigators believe that parkgoers, reportedly gathered at the park in memory of a friend who recently died, may have seen the assault,” she said.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call Pasadena police Detective Anthony Russo at (626) 744-6489.
