Lady Justice 4 16-9

Twin brothers were charged Wednesday with capital murder and robbery for an attack on a 62-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed while walking home from a Los Angeles supermarket last month.

Kenyata and Keishon Blake, both 18, are set to be arraigned Feb. 11 in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on one count each of murder and second-degree robbery in the Dec. 22 attack on Maria Elena Rivas.

The murder charge includes the special circumstance allegation that Maria Elena Rivas was murdered during the commission of a robbery, along with an allegation that Kenyata Blake personally used a knife during the commission of the crime. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty against the brothers.

Rivas was attacked while walking west on Adams Boulevard near Catalina Avenue after shopping at a Ralphs grocery store at 2600 S. Vermont Ave., authorities said.

The woman’s purse was missing, authorities said.

Last Wednesday, the Los Angeles City Council issued a $50,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Rivas’ killing.

The brothers — who are also charged with robbing a woman outside a liquor store in the Mid-City area last Friday — were arrested Monday by Los Angeles police detectives.
