An officer-involved shooting Tuesday in the Hyde Park area left an 18-year-old suspect hospitalized, police said.
The shooting occurred about 7:45 a.m. in the 7200 block of South 10th Avenue.
Members of the LAPD’s criminal gang homicide division were going south on 10th Avenue from Florence Avenue when they saw a group of people congregating in an alley, said Officer Rosario Herrera.
One of the suspects was armed with a handgun, according to Herrera. When officers approached, an officer-involved shooting occurred, she said.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital, but his condition was unavailable. No officers were injured.
The shooting was being investigated by the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division.
