A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after losing control of a vehicle in downtown L.A., spinning out and broadsiding a car in the opposite lane, police said Monday.
The crash in the 1400 block of Sixth Street happened at 9:08 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Steve Bailey of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division.
“One vehicle was westbound and lost control,” Bailey said. “It spun out into the eastbound lane and broadsided the other car.”
The driver who spun out suffered head lacerations and was transported to a hospital for treatment before he was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the sergeant said.
There were five people in the other car who were first believed to be critically injured but, when examined at a hospital, it turned out they had only minor complaints of pain, he said.
The Sixth Street bridge was temporarily closed during the investigation and cleanup.
