A Los Angeles County probation officer pleaded not guilty Thursday to insurance fraud charges.

Raymond Milton, on unpaid leave from the probation department, is charged with two felony counts of insurance fraud.

Twice in early 2013, Milton is accused of altering a note from a dental office employee that could excuse him from work, according to Deputy District Attorney Angela Brunson.

Authorities allege that almost $2,400 in sick time was paid to Milton, arrested last month and released from jail after posting bail.

He is due back in Los Angeles Superior Court March 23, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
