Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the police search area as Baldwin Hills. It was Baldwin Park.
West Covina police Monday arrested a man who led officers on a chase to Baldwin Park in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
The suspect surrendered to authorities after a short standoff.
The pursuit began shortly before 10 a.m., when patrolling officers ran the license plate of the vehicle and learned that it had been reported stolen, said West Covina police Cpl. Rudy Lopez.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the motorist kept going, leading them on a chase into the Industry area and then into Baldwin Park, where he stopped near Bess Avenue and Athol Street about 10:20 a.m. and ran off, Lopez said.
Just before the suspect’s vehicle stopped, a police car crashed into another vehicle, Lopez said. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured, he said.
Officers searched the area and arrested the man about 11 a.m., Lopez said. His name was not immediately released.
