Five men were in custody Wednesday after a vehicle pursuit in Boyle Heights and officer-involved shooting that left one of the suspects wounded, police said.

The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Tuesday near Soto and Boulder streets, said Los Angeles police Detective Meghan Aguilar. The wounded suspect suffered non-life-threatening wounds, she said.

The incident began when Hollenbeck Station officers saw a vehicle matching the description of one wanted in connection with a weekend shooting, and they started following it, Aguilar said.

A short time later in a nearby alley, two men got out of the vehicle, one of whom was holding a handgun, Aguilar said.

“At that point, there was an officer-involved shooting,” Aguilar said. The suspect was wounded and a handgun was recovered by police. No officers were injured. The second man ran away, but was quickly caught, Aguilar said.

A third man who remained in the vehicle drove off, pursued by officers, and a short time later, he crashed into some parked vehicles, Aguilar said. He tried to run away, but was arrested.

Two other men were arrested for allegedly interfering with officers who were arresting the driver, Aguilar said.
