A man who allegedly tried to kidnap a woman while she was jogging in Whittier was in custody Tuesday, police said.

The woman was jogging on a sidewalk when the suspect grabbed her about 9:10 p.m. Monday in the 15900 block of Whittier Boulevard, said Whittier police Officer John Scoggins.

“During the struggle, the victim sustained minor scrapes and bruises as they both fell to the ground,” he said. “A good Samaritan came to the victim’s aid, and chased the suspect away on foot.”

Christian Moreno, 21, of La Habra was arrested during a search of the area, Scoggins said.

Moreno was booked on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, with bail set at $1 million, and was expected to appear in court Wednesday in Bellflower, the officer said.

Anyone who may have been similarly victimized, or who has any information on the case, was urged to call Whittier police Detective Brenna Dineen at (562) 567-9270.
