Authorities Wednesday were investigating the “suspicious” death of a 7-month-old boy who died after being brought to a hospital from his family’s home in Lancaster.
An autopsy was pending on the body of Terran Pettaway, who died on Tuesday after undergoing emergency surgery for a traumatic brain injury, according to sheriff’s officials and coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The baby was taken to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles from the 2300 block of East Avenue J-8 after family members called 911 and reported the child had been injured in the home.
“A preliminary investigation revealed family members’ account(s) of how the infant was injured are inconsistent with the type of injury the infant sustained,” according to a sheriff’s statement, which said homicide detectives were sent “to investigate the suspicious death.”
There have been no arrests, the sheriff’s department reported.
