A man who scammed elderly motorists by claiming they had been involved in traffic crashes and then demanding money from them pleaded no contest Wednesday to four felony counts.

David Stevens, 43, pleaded no contest to two counts of theft from an elder involving 86- and 68-year-old victims, along with one count each of residential burglary and bribing an executive officer.

He is expected to be sentenced April 22 to 10 years in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Stevens approached elderly motorists, told them they had been involved in a traffic collision and pressured them to shell out money for non-existent vehicle damage or personal injuries, according to Deputy District Attorney William Chung.

Stevens also offered to pay off a police officer if the officer gave him time to escape from a hospital where he was taken after he complained about his health following his arrest last year, authorities said.
