Two of four suspects sought in the assault and robbery of an 87-year-old man in Pasadena surrendered to police, apparently as a result of security images released to the media by investigators, and authorities Tuesday identified one of the fugitives who remain at large.
The attack and robbery happened just after 5 a.m. Friday near the Rose Bowl on West Drive, north of Salvia Canyon Road.
“Other pedestrians exercising in the area found the victim laying on the ground and called 911,” said Pasadena police Lt. Terysa Rojas.
The victim, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital in critical condition with head injuries and remains hospitalized, according to police.
The suspects took money and the man’s identification and credit cards, Rojas said.
Shortly after the robbery, the four suspects were recorded on video attempting to use the victim’s credit card at a Pasadena service station, she said.
Police described the suspects as three males and a female, and said the four were seen in a black 2003-2004 Honda Accord coupe with a sunroof.
Two of the suspects turned themselves in on Monday — apparently as a result of security images that were released to the media by police, said Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra.
Juan Antonio Medina, 19, of Rowland Heights, and Dominick Tobiah Guzman, 19, of Hacienda Heights, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery, and each was being held in lieu of $1.05 million bail, police said.
The third male suspect, who remains at large, was identified as Gabriel Anthony Mixco, 19, of Rowland Heights. The female suspect, who also remains at large, is unidentified.
The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office on Thursday, police said.
Anyone with information about the case was urged to contact Pasadena police Detective Tim Bundy at (626) 744-3953, Sgt. Mike Bugh at (626) 744-4525 or police dispatch at (626) 744-4241. Anonymous tips can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
