A Pasadena man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges he killed his sister and shot his nephew in San Gabriel last month.
Johnny Goins, 30, is charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder and assault with a firearm in connection with the March 5 attack.
Goins allegedly fatally shot his 32-year-old sibling, Tanya Goins, in the 5100 block of Rosemead Boulevard in San Gabriel.
The woman’s teenage son also was struck by the gunfire, authorities said.
Goins was arrested later that night at a Moreno Valley mall by Riverside County sheriff’s deputies.
He has remained in jail since then, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Inmate Information Center website.
Goins was due back in an Alhambra courtroom May 21, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
If convicted as charged, he could face up to 52 years to life in prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
