A suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a Metro bus driver in Echo Park on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

It happened about 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Coronado Street, according to Ramon Montenegro, public information officer with the department’s transit policing division.

Montenegro said he was informed that a male suspect, 24, was in police custody as of 6:45 p.m.

The suspect has yet to be identified.

Police made the arrest based on a description from a witness of the shooting, Montenegro said.

It’s unclear if the bus was the target of the shooting, he said.

The bus driver suffered a graze wound to his head, but it’s unclear if his injury was the result of a bullet or shattered glass, Montenegro said.

The driver was taken to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center with mild to moderate injuries and was in good spirits, he said.

There were passengers on the bus at the time of the shooting, but none of them were harmed by the gunfire, Montenegro said.

Neighbors who called 911 after the shooting reported hearing five shots being fired, according to ABC7.

One of the bullets struck the windshield of a car parked on Coronado Street, the station reported.
