A woman and 3-year-old girl had to be extricated from a crumpled car that struck a tree in Long Beach Thursday afternoon.
The woman, who’s about 50 years old, was driving a Honda Accord that crashed into a tree while traveling northbound on Magnolia Avenue, just north of 25th Street, about 1:50 p.m., said Jake Heflin, public information officer for the Long Beach Fire Department.
Both the woman and the girl, who was strapped into a child seat in the back seat, were taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, Heflin said. Their conditions were unknown.
Firefighters had to cut the roof from the sedan to access the patients, Heflin said.
The car’s steering wheel and curtain airbags deployed and there was “significant passenger space intrusion on the driver’s side,” he said, adding that the crash “shows the importance of utilizing the proper passenger restraint system for children.”
