A 3.7 magnitude earthquake hit the Grapevine and communities along the Los Angeles-Kern county line today.
The epicenter was at Wheeler Ridge, about 16 miles north-northwest of Frazier Park, at the very southern tip of the San Joaquin Valley. That’s about 65 miles north of the Los Angeles Civic Center.
It struck at 8:42 a.m., and was widely felt in Frazier Park and in the Pine Mountain Club community.
The Mother’s Day shaker was at the same spot where a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit in 1952, said USGS seismologist Lucy Jones. Twelve people were killed, and 18 injured, mostly in the Bakersfield area.
As for the Mothers Day timing, Jones quipped on her Twitter account, “the Earth doesn’t care if people feel it.”
