There were no traffic-related fatalities on Los Angeles County highways during the first 12 hours of this year’s Memorial Day holiday weekend, the California Highway Patrol reported Saturday.
The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and ended Saturday at 6 a.m.
Statewide, there were six traffic-related deaths, according to a CHP news statement.
During that same reporting period last year, there was just one traffic- related death in the CHP jurisdiction in Los Angeles County and three statewide.
In Los Angeles County, CHP officers arrested 67 motorists for drunken driving, a significant drop from 93 drunks last year. Statewide, there were 320 drunken driver arrests, in comparison to 362 last year.
