Authorities identified a man who was arrested in the hit-and-run death of a 15-year-old boy in Echo Park on Monday.
Sang Won Jung, 43, of Tujunga was taken into custody on Saturday and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Jung was released Sunday on $50,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear in court in downtown Los Angeles on July 9.
Christian Donis was pronounced dead about 1 p.m. Sunday at a hospital, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The teen was skateboarding with his 13-year-old cousin about 10 p.m. Friday when they were struck by an SUV while crossing westbound in an unmarked crosswalk on Alvarado Street at the intersection of Montrose Street, said Sgt. Jesse Garcia of the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division.
His cousin suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by family members, according to police. One of the boys tried to pull the other back before both were struck by the SUV, and the crash broke one of their skateboards in half, according to reports from the scene.
