The owner of a mattress factory in the Florence pointed to a spent celebratory rocket, pointed nose down where it pierced a cardboard box, and blamed the two-alarm fire that consumed his business on illegal fireworks.

A county fire dispatcher could not confirm the owner’s assertions, made on a Los Angeles television station.

About 75 Los Angeles County firefighters battled the second-alarm blaze for four hours in two metal commercial units at 7522 Maie Ave., the Los Angeles County Fire Department‘s Brian Jordan said.

The fire was reported at 9:41 p.m. Saturday and was all out at 1:56 a.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Rey Dong.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment, he said.
