A man allegedly killed his mother’s fiance Monday and then was shot and wounded by police.

The shooting occurred about 10:40 a.m. in the 13600 block of Gavina Avenue, where police were sent on a report of a domestic disturbance.

According to reports from the scene, the 29-year-old suspect is accused of fatally stabbing the victim inside a home the two shared with the mother and another of her sons.

Capt. Todd Chamberlain said police were first alerted by numerous calls from neighbors reporting that a bloodied man holding a knife was walking down the street.

Arriving officers tried in vain to get him to surrender, and the confrontation ended in gunfire. The suspect was said to be in critical condition.

When police entered the suspect’s residence, they found the stabbing victim dead.

The names of the suspect and the victim were not immediately released. It also was not clear what led up to the stabbing.
