Relatives of a 74-year-old Pasadena man who was allegedly beaten to death by his 25-year-old wife filed a wrongful death suit against the woman Monday.
The plaintiffs are a sister, four nieces and a nephew of Chi-Lung Chang, who died at a hospital more than two weeks after Gina Marie Sas allegedly struck him in the head during a domestic dispute at their home on April 1, 2014.
The suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, as well as compensation for burial expenses.
Sas has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and infliction of injury to a spouse. An attorney representing her could not be immediately reached.
The lawsuit alleges Sas hit Chang in the head with a ladle — a long- handled spoon with a cup-shaped bowl. He developed bleeding in his brain and “died a protracted and painful death” 17 days later, according to the lawsuit.
