The coroner’s office Thursday identified a woman killed when two vehicles collided and crashed into a Gardena doughnut shop as 30-year- old Maria Campos.
Campos, a Gardena resident, died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Four other people suffered minor injuries in the two-vehicle crash, which occurred at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Western and Marine avenues, said Gardena police Lt. Uikilifi Niko and Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett.
The vehicles collided and then slammed into the Donut King II shop, Niko said.
All of the injured parties were taken to a hospital, Pickett said.
Campos was a passenger in a vehicle that had three people in it, Niko said.
“There was also a 6-year-old boy in the back seat who was injured,” Niko said.
The second vehicle only had a driver in it, Niko said. One of the injured was an employee of the doughnut shop.
Niko said authorities don’t know how the crash occurred but there was no indication that drugs or alcohol was involved.
When Gardena officers arrived at the scene Niko said that one car was still partially inside the doughnut shop.
The intersection of Western and Marine avenues was closed and a SigAlert was declared by the California Highway Patrol for the police investigation of the crash.
