A Tujunga man who allegedly ran down a pair of teenagers skateboarding in the Echo Park area, killing one of them, pleaded not guilty today to felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges.
Sang Won Jung, 26, was arrested June 13, the day after the teenage cousins were struck while skateboarding across Alvarado Street at Montrose Street. Christian Donis, 15, and his 13-year-old cousin, Adam, were struck around 10 p.m. June 12 by a compact Toyota SUV, police said.
Christian Donis died at a hospital two days later. Adam suffered only minor injuries, according to police.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Jung went to police June 13 and claimed he had lent the SUV to someone else, who struck the boys. But Jung was arrested after police examined his vehicle.
Jung, who is free on $50,000 bond, is due back in court Aug. 11, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.
Jung faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
