Someone claiming to be a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy has been calling Whittier residents to try to get $2,000 from them, police said Monday.
Several residents have called police saying someone called them on the phone pretending to be a deputy, police said. The person told the residents they had missed jury duty and to bring $2,000 to the Star Center to settle the resulting violation.
It is a scam, police and the sheriff’s department said.
The sheriff’s department will never call a resident to make a demand for money, the department said.
