Sheriff’s detectives on Friday were seeking victims of a 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of placing a cellphone camera in the women’s restroom of a Lancaster Starbucks.
Antonio Serrano was arrested on Thursday after he was identified through a photo of him that was found on the phone, Deputy Joshua Stamsek of the sheriff’s Lancaster Station said.
The cellphone, which was taped to the restroom sink’s pipe lining, was found on July 9 at the coffee shop in the 800 block of West Avenue K by a mother and child who were using the lavatory, Stamsek said.
Deputies removed the cellphone, which appeared to be positioned to record patrons using the restroom, Stamsek said.
“During the investigation, the detectives also discovered the suspect was in possession of a government document with a false seal, additional cellphones and subscriber identity module (SIM) cards,” Stamsek said.
Serrano was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail and was due to appear in court in Lancaster on Monday, Stamsek said.
Serrano told detectives that he had been recording women and children using the restroom for a couple of months, which was confirmed by evidence found on the recovered cellphones and SIM cards, the deputy said.
Anyone who may have used the restroom in June and up to July 9 was asked to contact the sheriff’s Lancaster Station at (661) 948-8466.
