A 78-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday on the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway in East Los Angeles.

California Highway Patrol officers dispatched at 12:30 a.m. found the woman lying unresponsive in the No. 1 lane, north of Triggs Street, said CHP Officer C. Richardson.

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, Richardson said.
