The discovery of what appeared to be grenades in the West Hills home of a deceased veteran forced the evacuation of the residence and some nearby homes Monday.

Officers responded to the home in the 23000 block of Stagg Street about 1 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The devices were apparently found by relatives of the recently deceased veteran.

Some nearby homes were evacuated and a bomb squad was called to the scene.

The squad eventually took the devices to the nearby Lazy J Ranch Park in Canoga Park, where they were detonated.

No injuries were reported.
