A 1-inch natural gas line was damaged by a crew demolishing a house in Boyle Heights Wednesday, but no one was hurt, authorities said.

Firefighters were sent to the 200 block of North Saint Louis Street about 9:50 a.m., said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Some evacuations were ordered in the area as a precaution, Stewart said.

Southern California Gas Co. crews were sent to handle the problem, caused by a third-party contractor, and they capped the line at 11:45 a.m., said Denise King of the gas company. Crews continued to repair the line.

King reminded people to call 811 at least two business days before an excavation so they can learn the location of underground natural gas lines.
